In Sumy, there are plans to construct four new "underground schools", with a total of eleven in the region.

This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during his working visit to the Sumy region.

According to the Cabinet's press service, he visited a school where an underground shelter is currently being built.

"The protective facility will accommodate 500 individuals and will allow children to learn in safety and in-person. Approximately 117 million UAH has been allocated for this project from state and local budgets," Shmyhal noted, adding that the construction should be completed by the start of the next academic year.

He also mentioned that classes at the school are currently held in a mixed format.
