The Estonian government has announced a commitment of €3.5 million for the supply of Starlink systems to Ukraine through an IT coalition with Luxembourg. According to ERR, this funding will be part of Ukraine's aid package for 2025.
The Estonian Ministry of Defense stated that the financing will be conducted through joint purchases coordinated with Luxembourg.
Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur emphasized that Ukraine requires support for the operation of Starlink, which provides a significant tactical advantage on the battlefield.
“The capabilities of Starlink are crucial, considering Ukraine's plans to significantly expand its drone units that require high-speed internet,” Pevkur noted.
He further added that Ukraine is fighting for the freedom of all Europe, including Estonia, and that besides weapons, technological support is essential.
This year, Estonia has already provided military assistance to Ukraine amounting to approximately 0.3% of its GDP, focusing on military procurement through local companies, training armed forces, and developing the IT sector.
