Germany has committed to providing 60 million euros to the Energy Support Fund for Ukraine. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko met with German Energy Minister Kateryna Reiche to discuss the country's winter preparations and strengthening energy resilience.
"This funding will expedite the delivery of generators, energy equipment, and mobile power plants," Svyrydenko stated.
The meeting also covered the establishment of a joint energy working group and the potential for expanded industrial collaboration.
"In December, a Ukrainian-German business forum will take place in Berlin, which could serve as an effective platform for new partnerships. I proposed that Germany sign an intergovernmental agreement to support investors, similar to arrangements already in place with Denmark, the Netherlands, France, and Switzerland. I also expressed gratitude to Germany for its active stance on the use of Russian assets," the Prime Minister noted.
Additionally, Reiche promised Ukraine an extra 30 million euros for the energy sector, with Tagesspiegel reporting that this sum could be increased. During her visit to Kyiv, she informed reporters that approximately 60% of Ukraine's gas supply was destroyed by Russian attacks in early October.
"Russia's goal is clearly to exhaust Ukraine. We will assist in restoring the energy infrastructure," she said.
As reported, Reiche arrived in Kyiv on October 24 to assess Ukraine's needs for restoring energy infrastructure after massive Russian attacks that severely damaged electrical networks. Besides restoring energy infrastructure, Reiche intends to focus on expanding German-Ukrainian defense cooperation.
Currently, Germany has allocated one-third of the total 390 million euros for the Energy Assistance Fund for Ukraine.
Reminder: On October 13, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell reported that the EU is working on allocating an additional 100 million euros to Ukraine for the heating season. On October 24, Ukraine's Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk stated that Ukraine is discussing additional assistance with partners for the purchase of gas and energy equipment. Ukraine will receive a third package of about 150 million dollars from Norway for gas purchases for the winter.
