The European Investment Bank has allocated €46.1 million to Ukraine for four projects aimed at enhancing urban infrastructure. This was reported by the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine.
The funds will be used for the reconstruction of water supply and sewage systems, landfill reclamation near Lviv, improving energy efficiency in public buildings, and purchasing public transport in Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Lviv, Zaporizhzhia, Uzhhorod, Ternopil, Kamianske, Dnipro, and Kremenchuk.
Specifically, €13.3 million has been allocated for two programs focused on developing municipal infrastructure and public transport. An additional €14.7 million will be directed towards another program aimed at enhancing transportation in cities, while €4.8 million will focus on improving energy efficiency.
As of October, the EIB has already invested over €168 million in Ukraine to support these projects. The largest portion of funding, amounting to €121.1 million, has been allocated for upgrading public transport fleets in Ukrainian cities.
In total, the EIB's loan portfolio in Ukraine consists of 27 projects worth €4.7 billion, making it one of the largest among international financial institutions. These funds are used to restore critical infrastructure, including roads, railways, and bridges.
As Deputy Finance Minister Olha Zykova explained, this support is of “extremely significant importance for Ukraine, especially under conditions where the government is directing all domestic resources to meet the needs of the security and defense sector.”
