The Security Service of Ukraine has arrested two Russian agents who were preparing to strike energy facilities in the Kyiv region. According to information from the SBU,
the agents were surveying the area, noting the coordinates and condition of energy facilities after strikes.
The investigation revealed that the suspects were unemployed individuals from the Odessa and Khmelnytsky regions, who fell under the influence of the Russian GRU while seeking quick earnings through Telegram this fall.
After being recruited, the agents were dispatched to Kyiv to coordinate missile attacks in the region.
During their reconnaissance, they also photographed and marked the locations of checkpoints on local roads.
The SBU apprehended them in Kyiv while they were scouting potential target locations.
During searches, smartphones with anonymous chat apps used to communicate with GRU operatives were seized.
Based on the gathered evidence, the SBU investigators notified both detainees of suspicion under Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason in a state of war).
The suspects are being held in custody without bail and face life imprisonment with asset confiscation.
