The counterintelligence unit of the Security Service of Ukraine executed an operation in Zaporizhzhia, apprehending an agent preparing to attack a soldier from an elite unit. According to the SBU, the perpetrator attempted to plant explosives in the military's apartment for a later remote detonation.
The investigation revealed that a 44-year-old engineer, recruited by the FSB, rented a room where the soldier stayed during his rotation after combat missions.
After receiving information from the FSB, the agent was instructed to retrieve explosives and install them near the soldier's door.
The SBU successfully intercepted the terrorist plot and detained the suspect during the preparation phase.
During a search of his residence, an electric detonator and other evidence of FSB contacts were found.
According to the investigation, the agent was recruited through an acquaintance who works for Russian intelligence in the temporarily occupied Melitopol.
Simultaneously, the agent provided the enemy with geolocations of operational energy facilities in Zaporizhzhia that the Russians intended to target.
Based on the collected evidence, the detained individual has been charged with treason. He remains in custody and faces life imprisonment with asset confiscation.
