A 52-year-old man from Kyiv, who is the head of a university department, became the target of arson. He sustained burns to his hand during the act.
The police were alerted to a vehicle fire in the courtyard of an apartment building on Radunska Street. Investigators and emergency responders rushed to the scene, but unfortunately, the Hyundai was completely consumed by flames.
Authorities determined that a 49-year-old resident of the Holosiivskyi district was responsible for the arson, arriving at the crime scene with a prepared canister of gasoline. He broke the car window, soaked the interior with the flammable substance, and ignited it, suffering burns in the process.
The suspect was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. He claimed that he acted out of a desire for revenge against the new partner of his ex, with whom he still had feelings.
Investigators, under the guidance of the District Prosecutor's Office, have charged him with part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – intentional damage to someone else's property by fire. He faces up to ten years in prison.
