Law enforcement agencies in Kyiv executed an operation that led to the arrest of a 50-year-old taxi driver found in possession of illicit drugs, including amphetamines and cannabis. The suspect faces up to 12 years in prison.
During a patrol in the Pechersk district, police stopped a Toyota car, whose driver claimed to be working as a taxi driver. However, it soon emerged that he was carrying illegal substances. An investigative team was dispatched to the scene.
It was established that the offender is a resident of the Kyiv region, who combined his taxi job with the illegal sale of drugs, which he personally delivered to clients and shipped via postal services.
During the investigation, plastic bags containing amphetamines and cannabis, scales, mobile phones, packaging envelopes, and approximately 12,000 hryvnias were discovered in the vehicle. Furthermore, a search of his residence uncovered a bag of dried mushrooms of unknown origin, powdered substances, and plants that will undergo expert analysis.
The suspect was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Investigators charged him under Part 3 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for the illegal acquisition, storage, and transportation of psychotropic substances in especially large quantities.
The court has ordered the man to be held in custody with the possibility of bail set at 900,000 hryvnias. The drug dealer faces up to 12 years in prison with asset confiscation.
