The Security Service of Ukraine has arrested an FSB agent in Kharkiv who was attempting to plant an F-1 grenade in a local park. The press center of the SBU reports this incident.
The detainee was acting on instructions from the Russian Federal Security Service.
According to the case materials, he received coordinates of a cache from which he retrieved the munition and purchased inconspicuous fishing line to attach to the grenade's fuse.
The security service noted that the explosion in a crowded area aimed to instill panic among the city's residents.
SBU operatives timely uncovered the criminal intentions and apprehended the terrorist at the site during the night.
The investigation revealed that the 62-year-old local resident was executing a task for Russia, with his wife living in Moscow and working for the Russian security service.
It was also documented that after planting the grenade, the agent planned to create an improvised explosive device (IED) from plastic explosives.
He intended to place the finished bomb in the city center for remote detonation during peak hours.
During searches at the detainee's residence, a phone used for detonating explosives, a radio, a smartphone, and a tablet with evidence of his contacts with the enemy were seized.
SBU investigators informed the agent of his suspicion under part 2 of article 111 (state treason committed under martial law) and part 1 of article 14, part 2 of article 258 (preparation for a terrorist act by prior conspiracy of a group of persons) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
