In the Kharkiv region, the counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine arrested an agent who, under enemy orders, attempted to carry out sabotage on a railway route used by defense forces.
It is known that the perpetrators intended to blow up the tracks to derail a cargo train of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
A 54-year-old local mechanic, who had been publishing anti-Ukrainian comments on Telegram, was recruited by Russian special services.
Initially, he planted a homemade explosive device (IED) under the sleepers, but the explosion did not result in the train derailing.
His next task was to plant another IED under a military convoy.
SBU employees thwarted the enemy's plans, preventing a new explosion and arresting the agent during the preparation for the sabotage.
It has been established that after recruitment, the Russians provided the agent with instructions for making explosives and sent components, including sensors and 8 kilograms of plastic explosive.
To deliver the components, the occupiers used a drone that dropped the cargo in a predefined location in the Kharkiv district.
During searches, a smartphone containing evidence of cooperation with the enemy was seized from the detainee.
Based on the gathered evidence, SBU investigators informed the suspect of charges under several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  • Part 2 of Article 113 (sabotage committed under martial law);
  • Part 1 of Article 14, Part 2 of Article 113 (preparation for sabotage under martial law);
  • Part 1 of Article 263 (illegal handling of explosives).

The perpetrator is currently in custody without the right to bail. He faces life imprisonment with property confiscation.
The operation was conducted by SBU employees in the Kharkiv region under the guidance of the regional prosecutor's office.
