A tragic traffic accident occurred in Kyiv around midnight, resulting in the death of a pedestrian born in 1965. Investigators are currently working to establish all the circumstances surrounding the incident. A criminal case has been initiated. 
The accident took place on the Capital Highway in the Holosiivskyi district. Preliminary reports indicate that a 29-year-old driver of a Lexus struck the pedestrian who was crossing the road at an unauthorized location.
As a result of the injuries sustained, the pedestrian died at the scene.
After the collision, the vehicle lost control, veered off the road, collided with a utility pole, and caught fire. The driver received medical assistance and was also tested for alcohol, showing a level of 0.69 promille.
The police detained the driver under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. All details of the fatal accident are still being investigated.
Investigators from the traffic accident department have begun a criminal case under Part 3 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for violating traffic safety rules, which resulted in the death of the victim. The penalties under this article can include imprisonment for up to ten years.
