A tragic incident occurred at the Ovruch train station in the Zhytomyr region: an explosion claimed the lives of a border guard and two civilians. Additionally, two soldiers and ten civilians sustained injuries. The assailant died in the ambulance. This was reported by the Zhytomyr Regional Police on their Facebook page.
"The explosion occurred around 10:50 on the platform of the train station in Ovruch. Preliminary reports indicate that four people died, and 12 were injured," the statement reads.
The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine confirmed that due to the explosion, a border guard and two civilians died, while two soldiers and ten civilians were injured. The attacker died in the ambulance.
«The explosion was triggered by a man during a document check at the Ovruch train station. First aid was provided to the victims immediately. The individual who detonated the device died in the ambulance,» the statement noted.
Investigations revealed that the attacker was a resident of Kharkiv and had recently been detained for attempting to breach the state border. Urgent investigative actions are currently underway.
Ivanna Siletska, the press officer for the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Zhytomyr region, stated that the explosion occurred around 10:50 on the train station platform.
"Preliminary findings show that the border guards were checking documents of train passengers. At that moment, one man activated an explosive device, leading to the explosion. A 23-year-old resident of Kharkiv, who had the explosives, died alongside three women aged 29, 58, and 82 from the surrounding area. Among the deceased was a border guard," Ivanna Siletska reported.
