Criminals established a network of telegram channels that actively promoted the idea of restoring the Soviet Union, disseminating communist symbols and refusing to recognize the Constitution of Ukraine and any state institutions.
Kyiv police investigators, supported by SBU operatives in the city and the Kyiv region, along with the Kyiv city prosecutor's office, uncovered the activities of participants in the so-called «UССР Committee».
Law enforcement authorities identified four active members of this movement who produced and circulated prohibited communist symbols, as well as administered telegram channels and chats to coordinate their actions and recruit new supporters. Members of these communities organized and coordinated the activities of pseudo-state institutions, held so-called «congresses of Soviet citizens» and enacted their own «laws».
The suspects include a 58-year-old resident of Chernivtsi, a 45-year-old woman from Mukachevo, a 46-year-old man from Ivano-Frankivsk, and a 49-year-old woman from Kyiv.
During searches at the suspects' residences, law enforcement seized materials containing prohibited symbols, mobile phones, and laptops used to administer the telegram channels.
All suspects have been notified of suspicion under part 2 of article 436-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – production, distribution of communist symbols and propaganda of a communist totalitarian regime. The article's sanctions provide for imprisonment for up to ten years.
