The counterintelligence officers of the Security Service of Ukraine have successfully thwarted yet another attempt by Russian special services to carry out a terrorist act in Dnipro. As a result of proactive measures in the frontline city, a Russian agent was detained who was preparing to detonate a vehicle of a National Police official.
The SBU operatives caught the suspect “in the act” as she was placing a homemade explosive device (HED) under the police officer's car in a residential area.
At the moment of her arrest, Russian operatives attempted to remotely activate the explosives to blow up the vehicle along with its driver. However, the SBU counterintelligence neutralized the HED in advance, preventing its detonation.
According to the investigation, the perpetrator was a 38-year-old drug addict from Kharkiv who caught the attention of the occupiers while searching for “money for a fix” in Telegram channels.
After being recruited, her handler from Russia sent her to Dnipro, where she initially retrieved the armed explosives hidden in a backpack. She then proceeded to the designated location to plant the HED based on the coordinates provided by her Russian contact.
The investigators of the Security Service charged the detainee under Part 2 of Article 15 and Part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (attempted terrorist act).
The perpetrator is currently in custody and faces up to 12 years in prison with asset confiscation.
The complex operations were conducted by SBU officers in Dnipropetrovsk region under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor's office.
The SBU reminds that if you or your acquaintances are being recruited by hostile special services, report it to the SBU chat-bot “Burn the FSB Agent”.
