Officers from the Svyatoshyn Police Department in Kyiv have submitted a case to court against an Odesa man who promised to renovate an apartment but instead stole equipment and building materials from his clients.
In August of this year, a woman reported a burglary to the police. Investigators, along with analysts, quickly identified a suspect: a 34-year-old man from the Odesa region who had recently arrived in the capital.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the woman and her partner decided to renovate their apartment and found a contractor through an online advertisement. After receiving the keys, the suspect stopped communicating, and when the owners checked their apartment, they discovered the theft.
Investigators charged the suspect under Part 4 of Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and confiscated the stolen items from him.
As of now, the indictment has been sent to court.
Under Ukrainian law, the suspect faces up to eight years in prison for theft committed during martial law.
