The Security Service of Ukraine, together with the National Police, has taken measures to prevent attempts at illegal arms sales across four regions of Ukraine.
Among the seized items are Russian grenade launchers, Kalashnikov rifles, and homemade explosive devices.
In Kherson region, a 58-year-old man was detained while attempting to sell a trophy RPG-26 anti-tank grenade.
The suspect had hidden the weapons under his bed at home, and during the search, the following was also discovered:
- cases of RGO, RG-42, F-1, RGD-5 grenades with fuses;
- five TNT blocks;
- over 200 rounds of various calibers for automatic weapons.
Investigations revealed that the discovered weapons were found at former enemy military positions during the occupation.
In Chernihiv region, a 48-year-old local was detained for manufacturing homemade explosives disguised as fire extinguishers.
He had set up an underground workshop on his property, where ready-made explosives and materials for making bombs were found during the search.
In Rivnenshchyna, an unemployed man was suspected of trying to sell an AK-47 and two magazines, which he had obtained through acquaintances in frontline areas. The weapon was hidden in a pit he had dug in a nearby forest.
During the search, 9 artillery shells and 4 grenades were seized, one of which was for an under-barrel grenade launcher.
In Cherkasy region, a former soldier was detained for attempting to sell an AK-74 rifle equipped with a magazine and silencer, along with over 50 rounds of 5.45 mm ammunition.
All detainees have been informed of suspicion under part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal handling of weapons, military supplies, or explosives).
The offenders face up to 7 years in prison.
The operations were conducted by SBU officers in Kherson, Chernihiv, Rivne, and Cherkasy regions in collaboration with the National Police and the relevant regional prosecutor's offices.
