Prosecutors have completed an audit of all criminal cases related to fatal traffic accidents and serious incidents that have been under investigation for several years. As a result of this audit, charges were brought against seven drivers. Among them is a 47-year-old Tesla driver, whose violation of traffic rules led to the death of a police officer. This information was reported by the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.
The fatal accident occurred on March 2, 2023, at the intersection of Obolonsky Avenue. There was a collision involving Tesla, Audi A7, and Toyota Camry. As a result of the accident, the driver and a passenger in the Audi A7 sustained serious injuries, and a 22-year-old passenger died in the hospital.
Both the victim and the deceased were police officers. To ensure an objective investigation, the case was assigned to investigators from the TDBR in Kyiv.
More than 10 forensic examinations were conducted in the criminal proceedings. Based on their results, the actions of the Tesla driver were classified under part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code — violation of road safety rules resulting in the death of the victim. The sanctions of this article provide for a prison term of 3 to 8 years.
It was established that the man, driving the Tesla, ignored traffic signals and collided at high speed with the Audi A7, which subsequently lost control and crashed into the Toyota Camry. Following this, the Tesla driver received a notice of suspicion.
