Criminal Robs Pensioner Under the Pretense of Seeking Help

A man was detained in Kyiv for robbing a pensioner while pretending to be a neighbor in need of financial assistance.

The criminal knocked on the door of an 87-year-old man, posing as a neighbor, and asked for money to help his sick mother. After receiving some cash, he snatched the pensioner's mobile phone and fled. He faces up to ten years in prison for this crime committed during martial law.
Recently, an elderly resident reported a robbery to the Kyiv police. The investigative team from the Podil police department was dispatched to the scene.
Law enforcement established that an unknown individual knocked on the victim's door, claiming to be a neighbor from another entrance. He explained that his mother was seriously ill and requested financial assistance. The pensioner, sympathizing with the stranger's plight, gave him several dozen hryvnias. However, the thief deemed this amount insufficient, and he grabbed the phone that was on the table.
Police quickly identified the suspect and located him in less than half an hour. He turned out to be a 34-year-old man previously convicted of fraud, residing on a neighboring street.
The police detained him under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and seized the victim's phone.
The suspect was notified of charges under part 4 of Article 186 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine - robbery committed during martial law. Currently, the question of choosing a preventive measure is being resolved. For his actions, he faces up to ten years of imprisonment.
