The military counterintelligence of the SBU has disrupted a new attempt by Russian intelligence to acquire sensitive information about Ukraine's defense in frontline areas.
Following a special operation in Sumy, an FSB informant was arrested for spying on Ukrainian troops engaged in combat.
The suspect attempted to locate electronic warfare systems, fortified areas, artillery positions, and movement routes of the Defense Forces in Sumy and Dnipro regions.
The investigation revealed that the suspect is a 22-year-old unemployed resident of Sumy who, while seeking "easy money" through Telegram channels, came under the attention of an FSB officer from the "FSB Administration for the Republic of Crimea".
Under his direction, the informant initially operated in the Konotop district of Sumy.
Among other things, the suspect installed a hidden camera near a local highway, providing remote access for the invaders.
Through this, the enemy hoped to monitor in real-time the airstrikes on the columns of Defense Forces moving towards the front.
Later, the FSB "deployed" its accomplice to the Dnipro region, where he spied on the movement of Ukrainian troops.
The SBU disrupted the occupiers' plans and detained their accomplice.
During searches, various smartphones with SIM cards used for covert contacts with the FSB were seized from the informant.
The SBU investigators informed him of suspicions under part 3 of Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (unauthorized dissemination of information about the movement, relocation, or placement of the Armed Forces or other military formations created in accordance with the laws of Ukraine, committed in wartime conditions).
The perpetrator is in custody without the right to bail and faces up to 12 years in prison.
Comprehensive measures were conducted by SBU employees in Sumy and Dnipro regions under the procedural guidance of the Sumy regional prosecutor's office.
