Kyiv Prosecutors Charge Driver in Fatal Accident

Kyiv prosecutors have charged a 67-year-old woman for violating traffic rules that resulted in the death of a cyclist.

Prosecutors from the Kyiv city prosecutor's office have charged a 67-year-old woman with violating traffic safety regulations, leading to a fatality. The deadly accident occurred on August 26 on Svitlytskoho Street in Kyiv. It has been established that the woman, driving a «Hyundai IX35», failed to yield and collided with the rider of an electric tricycle bicycle. The cyclist was traveling on the main road at an uncontrolled intersection with a roundabout. As a result of the collision, the 76-year-old tricycle rider sustained injuries and died at the scene.

The woman's actions are classified under part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, specifically for violating traffic safety rules resulting in death. The penalty under this article includes imprisonment for a period of three to eight years, along with a possible driving ban for up to three years. The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by the National Police in Kyiv under the supervisory guidance of the city prosecutor's office. According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a lawful manner by a court decision.
