The Security Service of Ukraine has apprehended another Russian agent in the Kyiv region. The suspect is a 40-year-old employee of a local chemical plant who was adjusting airstrikes in Ukraine at the behest of the FSB. His main task was to locate and relay coordinates of airfields, air defense systems, and drone manufacturing facilities for the Defense Forces in Kyiv, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, and Lviv regions. Under the clear direction of the FSB, the perpetrator conducted reconnaissance in these areas and marked military object coordinates on Google Maps. Simultaneously, he gathered intelligence through acquaintances, probing for information under the guise of casual conversations on seemingly unrelated topics.
The SBU operatives uncovered the agent while he was preparing to execute a new mission from his handler – documenting the aftermath of a recent enemy strike in the Kyiv region.
During the search, the agent's smartphone was seized, containing geolocations, photographs, and other 'reporting' materials he prepared for the invaders.
The SBU investigators have charged him under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed under martial law). The suspect is in custody without the right to bail and faces life imprisonment with asset forfeiture. The operation was conducted by SBU officers in the Cherkasy region under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor's office.
