Investigators from the capital's police have submitted an indictment to the court against a 38-year-old man who, while driving under the influence of alcohol, exceeded the speed limit and caused an accident that resulted in one death and two serious injuries.
The incident occurred in March of this year on Naberezhne Avenue, in the tunnel between Postal Square and the Kyiv River Port. The driver of the Infinity, traveling at around 170 km/h, collided with a Volkswagen, and then, unable to control the vehicle, struck a KIA.
As a result of the accident, the 35-year-old Volkswagen driver died at the scene, and his passenger sustained serious injuries. The passenger of the Infinity also received moderate injuries.
The perpetrator was detained at the scene in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. He was found to be intoxicated, with a breathalyzer reading of 1.10 promille.
Currently, the investigators have sent the indictment to the Podil District Court of the capital. The suspect's actions were classified under part 3 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — violation of traffic safety rules by a person in a state of intoxication, resulting in the death of the victim.
The sanction for this article provides for up to ten years of imprisonment with the prohibition of driving for the same period.
