A tragic incident unfolded in a Kyiv hospital when a 10-year-old girl lost her life during the preparation for surgery. The Kyiv police have initiated a criminal investigation. According to preliminary reports, the minor had broken her arm about six months ago, necessitating surgical intervention to stabilize the fracture with a metal pin. Recently, she sustained another injury, prompting a scheduled repeat operation.
Yesterday, while at the hospital in the Obolon district, the young patient experienced a sudden health crisis during the removal of her cast, leading doctors to administer several medications to stabilize her condition. Despite their efforts, her condition deteriorated, and the resuscitation measures taken over nearly three hours were unsuccessful; the girl passed away.
An investigative team, juvenile inspectors, and a forensic expert were present at the scene. Various examinations have been ordered within the investigation to determine the cause of the child’s death and the quality of medical care provided.
The pre-trial investigation is being conducted under Part 2 of Article 140 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — improper performance of professional duties by medical workers. The sanctions for this article include up to three years of imprisonment and a ban on holding certain positions or engaging in specific activities for up to three years.
