The military counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine has dismantled a spy network working for the FSB, which was directing strikes on Ukrainian defense infrastructure in the south.

As a result of a complex operation in the Odesa region, four individuals were arrested, including the senior agent of the group.

The suspects were preparing to provide the FSB with coordinates for Ukrainian military storage sites, as well as looking for locations of air defense units to adjust Russian attacks.

Investigations revealed that the resident of the Russian agency was a security guard at a local sports school. He was recruited through an acquaintance from Crimea who collaborates with Russian intelligence.

Following FSB instructions, the resident formed his own group of informants, including friends: a sports coach, a taxi driver, and his wife, who worked in a local store.

To fulfill hostile tasks, the group members monitored military and civilian cargo movements towards potential logistics centers of the defense forces.

Additionally, they gathered intelligence through casual conversations with local residents, including sports school visitors, taxi clients, and store customers.

The collected data was passed on to the resident during personal meetings or via phone, using code words for secrecy.

SBU officials uncovered the Russian agency at the early stages of its activities, documenting and arresting all members.

The SBU investigators informed the suspects about charges under several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  •  Part 2 of Article 28, Part 2 of Article 111 (high treason committed by a group in a state of war);
  •  Part 2 of Article 114-2 (dissemination of information about the movement of the Armed Forces of Ukraine).

The criminals remain in custody without the right to bail, facing life imprisonment and asset confiscation. The operation was conducted under the procedural leadership of the regional prosecutor's office.
