A Decade in Prison for Arson of Military Vehicles

A man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for setting fire to two military vehicles and a postal office in Kyiv.

A man who set fire to two military vehicles and a postal office in Kyiv will spend 10 years behind bars. The offender was apprehended in December of this year by Kyiv police officers in collaboration with the Security Service of Ukraine. The suspect is a 41-year-old local resident who worked as a mechanic.

In pursuit of easy money, he agreed to collaborate with Russian intelligence services and committed a series of arsons. He used fuel he discreetly drained from vehicles he serviced. Following instructions from his handler, he set fire to two vehicles belonging to military personnel and a postal office.

Law enforcement officials arrested the arsonist and charged him. Currently, the Holosiivskyi District Court has found him guilty on three counts of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  • part 2 article 27 part 2 article 28 part 2 article 113 - sabotage in conditions of martial law.
  • part 2 article 27 part 2 article 28 part 1 article 114-1 - obstructing the legal activities of the Armed Forces.
  • part 2 article 27 part 2 article 28 part 2 article 194 - intentional destruction of property.

For his crimes, the arsonist received a 10-year prison sentence with confiscation of property. The procedural oversight was conducted by the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.
