A Kyiv court has upheld the sentence of a man who was found guilty of cruelty towards a stray dog. The Kyiv Appellate Court confirmed the decision of the Dniprovskiy District Court, sentencing the 31-year-old man to 7.5 years in prison for his actions (part 3 of article 299 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The defendant's lawyer requested the court to reclassify the charges to a lesser offense, suggesting a penalty of only 2 years of imprisonment instead of the original sentence.

It’s worth noting that the man, who lived with his partner and her children, initially took in a stray dog named Milka but later began to mistreat her.

He not only kicked the dog but also, while holding his daughter, threw the dog down the stairs. Due to severe injuries from the abuse, the dog died, as confirmed by forensic examinations and surveillance footage.

The Kyiv Appellate Court upheld the initial verdict, affirming the justice of the sentence.
