In Ukraine's capital, a criminal investigation has been initiated against a private clinic surgeon who performed breast augmentation on a patient despite her having been diagnosed with cancer. The surgeon disregarded examination results indicating the presence of a tumor and failed to refer the patient for further diagnostics and an oncologist consultation. Consequently, the surgical procedure led to a worsening of the patient's health and the spread of the malignant tumor.

According to the investigation, last September, a woman approached the medical center seeking breast correction surgery.

During the preparation for the operation, a series of examinations revealed a tumor in the area of the planned intervention. However, the 30-year-old surgeon did not refer the patient for additional diagnostics and proceeded with the surgery despite the associated risks.

As a result, the patient's health significantly deteriorated due to the further spread of the tumor.

Moreover, when the surgeon realized he could not evade criminal responsibility, he attempted to mislead the investigation by claiming to be receiving treatment in another region.

Investigators, under the supervision of the Shevchenkivskyi District Prosecutor's Office in Kyiv, have charged the man under part 1 of Article 140 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for improper performance of professional duties, resulting in serious consequences. The article stipulates a penalty of up to two years in prison.
