The Security Service of Ukraine has apprehended a Russian agent responsible for preparing coordinates for airstrikes during a large-scale operation against Kropyvnytskyi. This incident occurred on July 28, 2025.

As a result of the enemy strikes, the regional philharmonic building, local university, and residential areas in the city center were damaged. According to the investigation, this was one of the largest airstrikes since the onset of the war. The aggressor utilized kamikaze drones directed by an FSB agent. It was found that the detainee is a 47-year-old unemployed local man who came under the occupiers' radar due to his pro-Kremlin comments in Telegram channels. After being recruited, he received instructions from his FSB handler to collect specific geolocations for drone strikes.

Following the attack on the regional center, he reported back to the Russian operative about the strike's outcomes to adjust further actions. Simultaneously, the agent monitored the movements of military cargo trains across the region.

SBU cyber specialists caught the perpetrator red-handed while he was setting up a 'video trap' near a railway facility. His phone was seized, containing evidence of his communications with the FSB.

Investigators have informed the suspect of charges under part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason under martial law). The perpetrator is currently in custody, facing life imprisonment and asset confiscation. The operation was conducted by SBU officers in the Kirovohrad region under the supervision of the regional prosecutor's office.
