A man called the emergency line 112, declaring his intention to blow up a shopping mall in the Obolon district of Kyiv. The report turned out to be false, and the suspect was promptly apprehended. He faces up to six years of imprisonment.
Recently, Kyiv police received a report about a bomb threat at one of the shopping centers in Obolon. During the conversation with the operator, the unknown individual informed about his intention to detonate the building.
The authorities immediately relayed the information to the relevant services, which inspected the area, but no dangerous items were found.
Officers from the criminal police department quickly located the false bomber. He turned out to be a 38-year-old man with multiple prior convictions who was intoxicated. During his interactions with law enforcement, he was unable to adequately explain his actions.
Investigators detained him under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and charged him under Part 1 of Article 259 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – for knowingly providing false information about a threat to public safety. For this crime, he faces up to six years in prison.
