The Security Service of Ukraine has apprehended an FSB agent operating within one of the Defense Forces units in the Kharkiv region.
The individual, a young conscript, was recruited through social media channels promising easy money. Reports indicate that he agreed to collaborate due to financial issues related to gambling debts. Investigations revealed that he directed Russian airstrikes and heavy artillery towards his unit's positions in the area of Velykyi Burluk. After adjusting enemy attacks, he would leave the shelling zone under various pretenses while gathering intelligence on nearby military units. The invaders anticipated that the information provided by the agent could be used to prepare for deeper incursions into Ukrainian territory.
The SBU counterintelligence apprehended the traitor while he was using a phone to record the location of Ukrainian defenders at the front.
During the search of the agent, a smartphone containing evidence of his collaboration with the enemy was seized. The Security Service also identified the Russian handler of this agent as a former law enforcement officer from Ukraine who defected to the enemy's side. The SBU took comprehensive measures to secure military bases and movement routes in the relevant area of the front.
Investigators have charged the agent with treason under Article 111, part 2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The FSB handler has also been charged with treason.
The arrested agent is being held without bail, facing life imprisonment. The operations were conducted under the procedural guidance of the Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the Eastern Defense Region.
