The State Bureau of Investigation has promptly initiated a preliminary investigation following the crash of a Mirage-2000 military aircraft in the Volyn region.
The accident occurred on the evening of July 22, 2025, at one of the airfields while executing a combat flight mission.
Immediately after the incident, investigators and operational staff from the Territorial Administration of the DBR in Lviv arrived at the scene. A special investigative group has been formed from the most experienced employees of the territorial administration and the Central Office of the DBR to ensure a thorough and objective investigation.
Preliminary information indicates that after takeoff, the pilot reported a critical electronics malfunction. The aircraft fell into an uninhabited area and was submerged in a flooded crater amidst marshy terrain. Thanks to the pilot's professional actions, there were no casualties or damage on the ground.
The pilot ejected in time and was quickly located by a search and rescue team. His condition is stable, and he has received the necessary assistance.
The incident has been classified under Part 2 of Article 416 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — violation of flight rules or preparation for them, resulting in a crash.
Investigators are currently examining the scene, seizing official documents and other physical evidence, and interviewing witnesses. Planned actions include interrogating responsible persons, conducting technical examinations, and analyzing data from the flight recorder.
The investigation is paying special attention to the technical condition of the aircraft, compliance with flight preparation regulations, and the effectiveness of oversight by responsible parties.
Simultaneously, an internal investigation is underway in the military unit to determine all the causes and conditions that may have led to the emergency event.
The investigation is under special control of the DBR leadership due to the strategic importance of aviation safety in a state of martial law.
