The tragic death of a young man on a cable car over the Dnipro River in Kyiv has led to legal action against five individuals for violations in the attraction's operation.
Prosecutors from the Pechersk District Prosecutor's Office in Kyiv have submitted an indictment against five individuals, including the attraction's designer, the director of the company that won the tender for the cable car's installation, an expert who inspected the attraction, a businessman managing the cable car since 2024, and a former technical supervisor from the municipal enterprise «Plisso».
It is important to recall that on July 21, 2024, the steel cable of the attraction snapped, causing a 20-year-old male to fall into the Dnipro River and lose his life.
It has been established that:
- the designer made several critical errors, including using a cable that was not suitable for attraction purposes, ultimately leading to the cable's break;
- the director approved the technical project;
- the expert from a private institution who conducted the safety assessment for the entrepreneur failed to notice the cable's unsuitability for its intended use;
- the entrepreneur, responsible for managing the cable car, was required to conduct daily inspections before operation and respond to the cable's poor condition;
- These four accused individuals will be prosecuted for violating safety regulations that resulted in loss of life (part 2 of Article 272 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The former technical supervisor from the municipal enterprise «Plisso», responsible for ensuring the safe operation of municipal objects, will be tried for official negligence that caused severe consequences (part 2 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
