A man attempted to bribe an engineer at a state defense enterprise. He has now been charged by investigators.

Police in Odessa, alongside the Security Service of Ukraine, apprehended an individual attempting to bribe a worker at a defense company under the supervision of the Odessa specialized prosecutor's office.

It was determined that a 37-year-old resident of Odessa offered the engineer a bribe of 40,000 hryvnias for access to documents belonging to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. The perpetrator sought copies of research and design work related to the modernization of military aviation products.

The engineer reported the bribery attempt to the management, which then contacted the authorities. The police arrested the man during a meeting with the engineer, at the moment of handing over part of the cash amounting to 20,000 hryvnias.

During the investigation, law enforcement seized the cash, mobile phones, documents, and other material evidence of the crime.

Based on the gathered evidence, investigators charged the detainee under part 3 of article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — offering an unlawful benefit to a public official, committed in conspiracy by a group of individuals.

The penalty for this article includes imprisonment for up to eight years with or without confiscation of property.

The court has chosen to remand the suspect in custody.

Law enforcement continues to identify all individuals involved in the crime.
