Law enforcement officials have apprehended a 33-year-old man acting on behalf of a foreign intelligence service. To weaken Ukraine's defenses, he set fire to five military vehicles in Kyiv and was preparing to commit murder against a Ukrainian serviceman.

Operatives from the Kyiv police's criminal investigation department in collaboration with the Security Service of Ukraine captured the suspect.

It was determined that the perpetrator arrived from occupied Crimea in 2021 and initially settled in Ivano-Frankivsk, waiting for further instructions. He later moved to Kyiv, where he began engaging in sabotage activities.

At the direction of enemy operatives, he was tasked with carrying out arson attacks on military equipment. Consequently, he set fire to five military vehicles, one of which belonged to a Hero of Ukraine. The suspect was apprehended during his latest act of arson.

Following the arsons, he received new instructions to track down and eliminate a high-ranking official of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The enemy promised to extract him to Russia to avoid prosecution.

Based on coordinates provided by his handler, he retrieved firearms from a stash and began preparations for the murder.

Thanks to prompt action by law enforcement, he was arrested under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, and evidence of his criminal activities was seized.

The suspect has been notified of charges under Part 1 of Article 114-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The court has imposed a preventive measure of detention, which can lead to up to eight years in prison.

Investigations are ongoing to clarify the legal qualification of his actions.
