A tourist from Kyiv tragically lost his life in the Carpathians near Dragobrat. While traversing a hiking route, the man fell from a snow cornice.
This information was confirmed by the press service of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Transcarpathian region.
The incident took place around 14:00 on Sunday, May 18, in the area of Dragobrat in the Rakhiv district. Police received a report that a man born in 1964 fell from a snow cornice while on the trail.
Rescuers from the mountain search and rescue units of the villages of Kvasy and Yasinya were dispatched to the scene. The body of the deceased was found a few hours later.
"At 18:30, rescuers recovered the body from the snowdrift and subsequently transported it to the Svidovets area, where it was handed over to the police", the report states.
Five other tourists were with the man, and they were escorted to the "Peremychka" lodge. None of them required medical assistance.
It is worth noting that in January of this year, a female tourist died at the Dragobrat resort while skiing. She lost her balance on a ski lift and fell, colliding with a sharp part of a protective fence.
