A new bill has been registered in the Verkhovna Rada, providing citizens aged 60 and above the opportunity to sign contracts with the Defense Forces of Ukraine.

The initiator of the document, Roman Kostenko, secretary of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence, commented for "Ukrainian Truth" that many citizens over 60 wish to contribute to the defense of Ukraine, as they possess substantial professional experience.

The proposed legislation allows, during martial law, citizens aged 60+ deemed fit by the military medical commission to join the service with the written consent of the commander.

These contract soldiers can occupy non-combat positions at the rank of private, sergeant, or officer, provided they were discharged after January 1, 2015.

The contract duration for servicemen aged 60+ will be one year, with the possibility of extending it. Officers of the appropriate age can sign a contract after obtaining approval from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

A two-month probation period will be established for this category of citizens. If a military member does not pass the probation, the contract will be terminated.

It is noteworthy that the bill has been supported by 37 members of parliament and will now be reviewed by the Committee on National Security.

Current Ukrainian legislation mandates mobilization for individuals aged 25 to 60.

For more information, refer to the new mobilization rules recently adopted by the Rada.

Additionally, consider how the reduction of the mobilization age might affect the capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
