Zelensky Returns Amid Escalating Attacks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is returning from South Africa due to a new wave of attacks from Russia.

In response to a significant new assault by the Russian Federation, President Volodymyr Zelensky has decided to cancel part of his visit to South Africa and return to Ukraine immediately. He also instructed Defense Minister Rustem Umerov to remind Western allies about the critical need for air defense support for Ukraine.

Details: The President emphasized the importance of the world understanding what is truly happening. This night, the enemy launched approximately 70 missiles, including ballistic ones, and nearly 150 strike drones.

Many Ukrainian cities have suffered extensive damage. Rescue operations are ongoing, and debris from buildings is being cleared.

As of 10 AM, according to the President, over 80 people have been injured across Ukraine.

Zelensky stated he ordered the Defense Minister to urgently contact international partners regarding Ukraine's requests for strengthening air defense systems.

An end to the attacks is needed immediately and unconditionally. We are also counting on assistance with humanitarian issues, including the return of our prisoners and Ukrainian children abducted by Russia. I am canceling part of the visit's agenda and will return to Ukraine immediately after meeting with the South African president."

Background: On the night of April 24, according to the Air Forces of Ukraine, Russia launched 215 missiles of various types and drones against Ukraine, with the main strike hitting Kyiv, where an entire neighborhood was damaged. Air defense shot down 112 enemy aerial targets, with active participation from F-16 and Mirage fighter jets.
