On the night of April 24, approximately 40 fires broke out in Ukraine due to a massive attack by Russia. Rescuers operated under the threat of further strikes.

During the night of April 24, firefighters managed to extinguish about 40 fires across 9 regions as a result of a massive combined attack by Russia involving missiles and drones. A rescuer was injured in Zhytomyr due to a subsequent strike.

Direct quote from the minister: "Last night, rescuers extinguished 40 fire outbreaks in 9 regions. Kyiv and its region, Zhytomyr, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Poltava, Khmelnytskyi, Sumy, and Zaporizhzhia were under a massive combined attack from Russia."

The most severely affected area was Kyiv, where rescuers operated at 13 sites... By 7:30, 9 fatalities had been confirmed as a result of the Russian strike, with over 70 individuals sustaining injuries."

Klymenko noted that the firefighting efforts continued throughout the night under the threat of renewed attacks.

"In Zhytomyr, the enemy launched a second strike on the State Emergency Service unit that had arrived to extinguish the fire. A 39-year-old rescuer was injured," Klymenko concluded.

  • On the night of April 24, Ukraine was under a massive combined attack from Russia. The air defense system was operational.
  • By 6 AM, it was reported that there were 9 fatalities and 63 injuries in the capital, including 6 children and a pregnant woman. Hits on civilian infrastructure were also recorded. In the Svyatoshyn district of Kyiv, phone calls could be heard from under the rubble as rescue operations continued, searching for 2 children among others.
  • In Kyiv region, 2 people were injured, and several residential buildings, shops, warehouses, a public transport stop, and vehicles were damaged as a result of the combined attack.
  • As a result of the combined attack, two railway workers were injured: a conductor in Zhytomyr and an engineer in Kyiv. Additionally, the technical railway infrastructure, as well as administrative and technical buildings, were damaged in Kyiv and Kharkiv due to shelling.
