Volunteers from the Ukrainian Red Cross Society were targeted by Russian forces in Kherson when their evacuation vehicle came under artillery fire.
The organization shared this information via social media.
On August 9, around 10:00 PM, Russian troops initiated heavy shelling of Kherson, focusing their fire on the "Ostriv" district, where mass evacuations of residents are ongoing.
Approximately at 11:10 PM, another attack occurred near the base of the Ukrainian Red Cross rapid response team in the Kherson region.
As a result of the strike, a Toyota Land Cruiser used by volunteers for evacuating people, delivering humanitarian aid, and carrying out other tasks in the combat zone was damaged.
A Volkswagen Transporter ambulance was also parked nearby, which sustained a damaged wheel from debris.
Fortunately, the volunteer group was in a shelter at the time, so no injuries were reported.
The organization emphasized its strong condemnation of attacks on civilian infrastructure and vehicles clearly marked with the Red Cross emblem, as such actions constitute a direct violation of international humanitarian law.
