As a result of an attack by Russia on the Bilenkivka penal colony with four guided bombs, 17 prisoners lost their lives, while 42 were injured.
This was reported by the Ministry of Justice via Telegram.
"On July 28, 2025, around 23:28, the Russian armed forces conducted an airstrike on the territory of the Bilenkivka penal colony using four guided bombs. The dining hall was completely destroyed, and significant damage occurred to the administrative building and quarantine unit. As a result of the strike, 17 prisoners died, and 42 were injured," the statement said.
Severely injured individuals were hospitalized.
"About 40 people sustained injuries of varying severity. One staff member received minor injuries (shrapnel wound to the face). Approximately 50 security personnel were deployed to maintain order in the facility. All those affected received medical assistance and are under observation in the medical unit. The perimeter of the facility remains intact, and there is no threat of escape," the report noted.
The ministry emphasized that this airstrike further demonstrates a gross violation of international humanitarian law by Russian forces. "Attacking civilian infrastructure, including penitentiary institutions, is considered a war crime," the statement concluded.
