The Ukrainian Armed Forces are currently holding approximately 90 square kilometers in the Glushkovsky district of the Kursk region.

This was announced by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, during a press meeting, as reported by Ukrinform.

Syrskyi claims that the actions of Ukrainian units in the Glushkovsky district hindered the Russians from relocating a significant force from the Kursk direction to Donetsk.

“In April 2025, Russian troops - which include around 60,000 personnel (including two airborne assault divisions, airborne assault brigades, and marine brigades) - were tasked with moving to new combat zones and reinforcing the offensive groups of the Russian army in the Pokrovsk, Toretsk, Lyman, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson directions, thereby increasing the pace of the enemy's offensive. However, our proactive measures in the Glushkovsky district of the Kursk region disrupted these plans,” noted Syrskyi.

The Commander-in-Chief explained that as a result, these troops were not redeployed to other fronts.

According to Syrskyi, one brigade that was already heading toward Pokrovsk was redirected back to the Kursk area. Currently, about 10,000 Russian soldiers are engaged in combat operations specifically in the Glushkovsky district, on Russian territory.

“The Ukrainian army controls around 90 square kilometers of the Glushkovsky district in the Kursk region, and this is our preventative action in response to a potential enemy assault,” Syrskyi added.
