In May 2023, sappers from the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine accomplished significant work by clearing 7847 hectares of land liberated from Russian troops from dangerous objects, as reported by the Ministry.
During this month, 7660.21 hectares of agricultural land were cleared, along with 21.27 km of highways, 9.44 km of power lines, 40.24 km of railway tracks, and 5.94 km of pipelines.
Additionally, 0.88 hectares of residential areas were cleared of explosive devices.
During this period, military sappers identified and neutralized 6818 explosive items.
Since the onset of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Ukrainian sappers have already neutralized 445,680 explosive objects.
As of the end of May, there are 87 certified mine action operators working in Ukraine, as reported by the Ministry of Defense.
Mine clearance operations involve teams from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the State Special Transport Service, explosive ordnance disposal units of the National Police, and the State Emergency Service.
According to the Law of Ukraine on mine action, humanitarian demining is conducted solely by certified mine action operators.
