The only hospital in Kupiansk has halted its operations due to ongoing shelling that poses a risk to the lives of both patients and medical personnel.
This was reported by Andriy Besedin, the head of the Kupiansk city military administration, during a telethon.
"Unfortunately, the medical facility must temporarily cease operations due to the threat of airstrikes", – he noted.
Andriy Kanashievich, head of the Kupiansk district military administration, added in a comment to Suspilne.Kharkiv that this was the only hospital in town.
He mentioned that the injured will either be transported immediately to the nearest medical facilities via ambulance or stabilized first and then transported.
"We had to make decisions to save lives, as there were constant attacks near the medical facility, and just days ago, a nearby educational institution was hit. Previously, there were frequent strikes on ambulances, creating a dangerous situation for workers", – he explained.
According to official statistics, as of May 15, 1750 residents remain in Kupiansk, while the total in the community is 2700. They live under constant shelling, with 1900 strikes recorded in May alone from various types of weaponry.
It is worth noting that the Ministry of Health previously reported that 114 medical facilities were completely destroyed in frontline areas of Ukraine.
