Discord is implementing new age verification rules for all users globally to ensure full access to its services. All accounts will now be automatically categorized as teen accounts with updated communication settings, age restrictions, and content filters.

The age verification process will start gradually appearing from March 2026 for both new and existing users. Those wishing to access age-restricted content will be required to verify their age using facial recognition technology or by providing an identification document.

Discord emphasizes that video processing will occur only on users' devices, and all identification documents will be quickly deleted after verification.

In most cases, verification will only need to be completed once, though at times multiple methods may be necessary to provide additional information for age determination. The company also notes that the user’s age verification status will not be visible to others.

Additionally, Discord has announced the formation of its first "Teen Council", which will consist of 10-12 teenagers who will assist the company in understanding the needs of its younger audience on the platform.
