OpenAI has unveiled a new group chat feature in ChatGPT, which will soon be available to all users.
Following testing in Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, and Taiwan, OpenAI has confirmed that this group communication capability will be accessible to all registered users regardless of their plan (Free, Go, Plus, Pro).
This feature enables the creation of group chats where participants can invite others through a link. Up to 20 people can join, and they can access the chat using existing ChatGPT accounts or by registering new ones. Participants can collaboratively formulate queries to ChatGPT and respond to each other's messages.
OpenAI clarified that the content of group chats is not stored. Any participant can remove another from the conversation, except for the author.
The company also noted that in group chats, ChatGPT will utilize the GPT-5.1 Auto technology that will automatically select the best model based on the query and the user's plan.
Additionally, recently OpenAI introduced the new language model GPT-5.1, which features two operating modes: Instant and Thinking, aimed at enhancing the model's intelligence and improving instruction execution.
