NeoLens, an American startup with Ukrainian roots, has unveiled a groundbreaking AI assistant aimed at diagnosing and repairing military vehicles. Its offline capabilities enable usage directly on the battlefield. This information was provided in a press release from the startup.
The company reports that their technology is already assisting mechanics in the Ukrainian Armed Forces in reducing the time needed to restore vehicles such as Humvee, MaxxPro, and M113. According to Igor Simutin, commander of the logistics repair unit of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the AI assistant saves mechanics hours of work, enhances their safety, and extends the lifespan of the equipment.
Currently, NeoLens is being utilized in several repair battalions along the front line and is gradually scaling to support other types of weaponry, including robotic platforms and artillery. The system is most actively used for Humvee repairs.
Founded this year at Stanford University under the Lean Launchpad and Hacking for Defense programs, the startup was co-created by Ostap Korkuna, an American of Ukrainian descent, and James Leo, an American of Taiwanese descent. The developers emphasize that NeoLens is the first assistant that operates entirely offline, ensuring safety and reliability even in areas without connectivity.
Ostap Korkuna stated that the solution emerged after hundreds of interviews with Ukrainian and American military personnel, confirming the need for an autonomous tool for vehicle repairs.
It is noted that NeoLens allows military personnel to perform step-by-step diagnostics, identify malfunctions, and conduct field repairs at an expert level, even if the mechanic is encountering a specific platform for the first time.
The developers stress that the system is provided to Ukrainian military personnel free of charge.
The company plans to expand its functionality, including multimodal diagnostics through photos and videos, as well as scaling the technology for civilian sectors and the international defense solutions market.
