Microsoft has announced the release of its latest image generation model, MAI-Image-1, which has been available since October 2025. Users can try it out in the Bing Image Creator and Copilot Audio Expression services.
This marks the third proprietary model from Microsoft. In August 2025, the company unveiled MAI-Voice-1 for natural speech generation and MAI-1-preview, its first text-based model.
In the Bing Image Creator, MAI-Image-1 is now available alongside DALL‑E 3 and GPT‑4o in the menu. In Copilot Audio Expression, it will be utilized in Story Mode to visualize various narratives.
Currently, MAI-Image-1 is accessible in all countries where Bing Image Creator and Copilot Labs operate, including Ukraine, but it is not yet available in the European Union.
Microsoft has claimed that MAI-Image-1 “excels at creating photorealistic images, such as lighting effects, landscapes, and more.” The model has also ranked in the top 10 for text-based image generation on LMArena.
