In Ukraine, the 5G technology is expected to cover parts of the territory by 2030. This was stated by Stanislav Prybityk, Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation, in an interview with Forbes. A full-scale launch is postponed until the end of martial law, but testing is planned in three cities: Lviv, Kharkiv, and Borodyanka.
Prybityk highlights that nearly 22% of all smartphones in Ukraine, equating to 9.4 million, support 5G technology. He added that the launch of the fifth generation mobile networks in Ukraine was scheduled for 2022, but the full-scale invasion altered those plans.
Regarding the selected regions for testing, Prybityk mentioned that Kharkiv was the president's idea, while Borodyanka symbolizes the reconstruction of Ukraine after significant wartime devastation.
"Kharkiv – is the president’s initiative. Testing in Kharkiv proves that despite constant shelling, the city is developing. Borodyanka is a symbol of rebuilding Ukraine after severe wartime destruction. Advanced technologies for a "Smart City" are being implemented there, and new mobile technology is needed," — stated Prybityk.
