Meta's Ambitious Leap into Robotics: A New Platform Emerges

Meta is set to introduce a groundbreaking project in the robotics field that could redefine industry standards.

Meta is preparing to innovate in the robotics sector, aspiring to become the "operating system for robots." According to Sources, the company is developing its own device called Metabot, but the focus is on creating software solutions for other manufacturers.

CEO Andrew Bosworth stated that software is the essential factor in advancing robotics. A team led by former Cruise CEO Mark Whitten, along with resources from Superintelligence Labs, is working on a "global model" that will enable robots to perform complex physical actions, starting with hand movement animations and potentially progressing to multi-step tasks.

As early as 2025, Meta considered the idea of creating a household robot for tasks such as cleaning or laundry, but for now, these are just preliminary research efforts.

Meta is not the only company with ambitions in the home robotics space. Apple is developing a device with a robotic arm, while Tesla regularly showcases its humanoid Optimus under controlled conditions.

If Meta's strategy succeeds, the company could become a leading provider of the "operating system" for robots, similar to how Google once dominated the smartphone market. However, Google is also making strides; its research division DeepMind frequently unveils new advancements in robotics, recently training its robots to "google" information and share knowledge.
