Kyivstar, Ukraine's largest mobile operator, is set to begin testing the innovative Direct to Cell technology for its users. The initial phase will focus on SMS messaging. Interested individuals can register to participate.
Testing will take place from October to November 2025, with implementation scheduled for Q4 2025, allowing satellite communication for sending and receiving messages. In the future, Kyivstar also aims to incorporate mobile internet and voice communication via VoLTE.
The operator notes that during the trial period, Direct to Cell will be offered at no additional cost. Currently, the technology is only available on Android smartphones, as Kyivstar awaits confirmation from Apple.
It's important to mention that Direct to Cell will only function in open areas.
As a reminder, Direct to Cell is a Starlink technology that connects your smartphone to satellites acting as mobile network base stations in space. This enables connectivity even in remote areas where ground signals do not reach.
